Barikell exhaust silencer for Kohler 23.5 and 25 HP engines — oil-filter-side outlet version
The exhaust silencer is a genuine Barikell spare part for Kohler 23.5 HP and 25 HP engines (CH730/CH740 series) fitted by the manufacturer to MK8-90 ride-on power trowels. The "oil filter outlet" version has the outlet pipe routed on the oil-filter side — match it to the exhaust layout of your machine when ordering. Weight 4.9 kg; manufacturer's article number in the Index field.
Which machines it fits
The silencer fits Barikell ride-on trowels with Kohler engines: MK8-90 Kohler 23.5 HP, MK8-90 Kohler 25 HP and MK8-90 TC Kohler 25 HP, and the loose Kohler CH730 23.5 HP engine. Compare the outlet direction with the removed silencer before ordering — Briggs & Stratton engines use a different model.
When to replace
Replace the silencer when the shell or internal baffle burns through (loud, tinny engine note, soot at the joints), when the mounting flange cracks or when corrosion goes through the casing. A leaking exhaust reduces engine power, directs hot gases onto the machine's guards and aprons and raises noise at the operator, who sits right above the engine on a ride-on trowel.
Fitting
Fit the silencer to the engine's exhaust manifold once it has cooled, on a new gasket, tightening the bolts crosswise to Kohler's specified torque. After the first start check the joint for leaks and the heat shield mounting. Replace the manifold gasket at the same time and inspect the mounting bolts, which seize easily at high temperature.
Engine service at the same time
Replacing the silencer is a good moment for an engine check: air and oil filters from the Heavy Duty set for Barikell MK8, fuel lines and guards. Other engine parts for power trowels are in filters for combustion engines, the machines themselves in ride-on power trowels.
