Command PRO is Kohler's commercial-duty line, rated in thousands of running hours, not garden seasons. Every unit runs OHV valve gear, cast-iron liners, pressure lubrication with an oil filter and a two-stage air cleaner that decides piston life in dust. The 20 to 25 hp band, from displacements of around 650–750 cm³, drives twin-rotor power trowels, self-propelled floor saws and ride-on machines where a single-cylinder 9–13 hp unit runs out of torque. Kohler units in this power class are twin-cylinder V-twins: smoother running, less vibration through the frame.

CH and CV series — horizontal or vertical shaft

Crankshaft orientation decides whether the engine will physically fit. The CH series (horizontal shaft) goes into machines driven through a V-belt or a centrifugal clutch: floor saws and generator sets. The CV series (vertical shaft) sends power straight down into the rotor gearbox — the layout used by power trowels.

These units are petrol and air-cooled, usually with an electric starter; service parts sit under filters for combustion engines.

Choosing a replacement — what to check

• Shaft — diameter of 25.4 mm (1") or 28.575 mm (1 1/8"), length from the mounting flange, and end type: splined, keyed or threaded.
• Base — bolt spacing is often close between models, build height and muffler position are not.
• Ancillaries — check whether tank, clutch and wiring harness carry over, and which starter the new unit has.
