A paving cart is a manual cart for moving paving blocks and paving slabs from the pallet to where they are laid, without carrying them by hand. At NORWIT.PL you will find clamp carts for paving blocks (400 kg load limit, clamp span 550–1050 mm), paving slab carts with a 30–50 cm grip and pallet trucks for moving full pallets up to 1,500 kg. Main manufacturer: Probst.
Types of paving carts
Choose the cart by what you move: a pack of blocks taken from the pallet, a single paving slab or a whole pallet. The parameters below come from the product pages.
| Model | Purpose | Working load limit | Grip range | Own weight |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Probst VTK-V | moving blocks from the pallet (adjustable clamp) | 400 kg | 550–1050 mm, pallets up to 900 mm high | 68 kg |
| Jazon WBK | paving slabs | 100 kg | 30–50 cm | 20 kg |
| Probst PW-III | full pallets of blocks or slabs | 1,500 kg | – | 195 kg |
How much does the load weigh — choosing the load limit
The working load limit (WLL — the highest mass allowed by the manufacturer) must exceed the load. Block and slab weight is easy to calculate from dimensions at a concrete density of about 2.4 t/m³ (without the pallet):
| Load | Approximate weight |
|---|---|
| 6 cm blocks, 1 m² | approx. 144 kg |
| 8 cm blocks, 1 m² | approx. 192 kg |
| pallet of 6 cm blocks, 10 m² | approx. 1.4 t |
| pallet of 8 cm blocks, 10 m² | approx. 1.9 t |
| paving slab 50 × 50 × 5 cm | approx. 30 kg |
| paving slab 50 × 50 × 7 cm | approx. 42 kg |
Cart, clamp or laying machine
A cart moves material around the site. Single elements are lifted and placed with mechanical clamps, curbs and edging with curb and edging clamps, and on large areas blocks are laid by machine with paving laying machines. The bedding under the blocks is levelled with paving screed bars.
Frequently asked questions — paving carts
Which cart for paving blocks should I choose?
Blocks are moved from the pallet to the laying area with an adjustable clamp cart, e.g. Probst VTK-V with a 400 kg load limit and a 550–1050 mm clamp span, which picks a pack of blocks from pallets up to 900 mm high. A light cart with a 30–50 cm grip and a 100 kg capacity is enough for single paving slabs, and full pallets up to 1,500 kg are moved with the Probst PW-III pallet truck.
How many blocks can a paving cart carry in one trip?
A paving cart carries as many blocks as its working load limit allows: at 400 kg and 8 cm blocks (approx. 192 kg/m²) that is about 2 m² per trip, and with 6 cm blocks (approx. 144 kg/m²) about 2.7 m². Weights are calculated at a concrete density of about 2.4 t/m³.
What is the difference between a paving cart and a pallet truck?
A clamp paving cart takes a pack of blocks of up to 400 kg from the pallet and brings it to the laying area, so it weighs only 68 kg and is easy to push. A pallet truck such as the Probst PW-III moves a whole pallet of up to 1,500 kg but weighs 195 kg itself and is used to reposition material around the site.
How do you move paving slabs?
Paving slabs are moved with a cart whose grip matches their width, e.g. the Jazon WBK with a 30–50 cm range and a 100 kg capacity at an own weight of 20 kg. A 50 × 50 × 5 cm slab weighs about 30 kg and a 50 × 50 × 7 cm slab about 42 kg, well within the permitted load.
How much does a pallet of paving blocks weigh?
A pallet of paving blocks covering 10 m² weighs about 1.4 t at 6 cm thickness and about 1.9 t at 8 cm — the weight of the blocks alone at a concrete density of about 2.4 t/m³, without the pallet. The Probst PW-III pallet truck rated at 1,500 kg can therefore move a pallet of 6 cm blocks, but the load must be reduced for 8 cm blocks.
Can a paving cart carry curbs?
The paving carts at NORWIT.PL are designed for blocks, paving slabs and pallets, while curbs are better handled with curb clamps. A 15 × 30 × 100 cm road curb weighs about 108 kg and needs a grip matched to its cross-section and a working load limit of at least 130–150 kg.
Other equipment for laying pavements is in paving tools. Order online or contact us via the form if you need help choosing.
