What the 300 kg class of vibratory plates is built for

At 300 kg a vibratory plate stops being a finishing tool and becomes a sub-base machine. Operating weight of 280–330 kg, centrifugal force of 30–50 kN and vibration at 65–80 Hz compact a 30–45 cm layer of sand, sand-gravel mix or crushed aggregate in 2–3 passes. Machines here are reversible — they travel forwards and backwards without turning, which is what makes work inside a linear trench possible.

Typical jobs are trench backfills, sub-bases under paving, manoeuvring yards and ramps; a plate 450–600 mm wide suits trenches and open ground alike. On a finished surface use a lighter machine with a protective mat — see compactors for paving stones.

The 300 kg class against neighbouring weight classes

The practical line runs at about 45 cm. Thicker lifts or stabilised loams call for the next class up; over thin bedding a heavier plate pushes material around instead of compacting it.

Soil type and realistic daily output

Non-cohesive soils — sand, sand-gravel mix, gravel, crushed aggregate 0/31.5 — suit a 300 kg machine best, and 2–3 passes are enough. Loams and clays damp vibration instead of transmitting it, so the lift drops to 20–30 cm and passes rise to 4–5. Daily output runs 600–1,200 m² for one operator over an 8-hour shift, at 20–25 m/min and 1.5–2.5 l/h of fuel. Protective mats, transport wheels and filters sit under accessories for compactors.
