Description
BMI Weisslack Standard 100 m steel measuring tape, white enamelled, mm graduation
A steel 100 m measuring tape from the German brand BMI in a Standard frame, made for measuring long distances on construction sites and in the field. The tape is 13 mm wide, has a printed millimetre graduation and EC accuracy class II, which means ±2.3 mm per 10 m. The Weisslack finish (white enamelled steel) protects the printing against abrasion, and the FLEXTOP tip protects the start of the scale.
Steel tape in EC accuracy class II
EC class II (the European accuracy class of measuring tapes) allows a deviation of ±2.3 mm per 10 m and is the manufacturer standard for steel tapes. Class I (±1.1 mm per 10 m) is an extra-cost option at BMI, while glass fibre tapes are class II or III (±4.6 mm per 10 m). This listing is the standard version; calibration and a certificate of conformity are optional extra services from the manufacturer.
Standard frame with a crank
The Standard frame is the Ergoline frame without the soft rubber protrusions, with plastic slide rings instead of ball bearings. The tape is wound by turning the crank on the drum. The frame is made of aluminium, ABS plastic and rubber, and for long tapes (size 4 for 100 m) BMI uses a V-shaped Standard frame.
What MM/BF in the name means
Each element of the name describes the design, following the manufacturer catalogue:
| Code | Meaning |
| MM | millimetre graduation printed along the whole tape |
| B | zero point at the edge of the front end fitting; with version A the zero is about 10 cm behind the fitting |
| F | FLEXTOP tip made of transparent, flexible plastic that, according to the manufacturer, protects the tape from breaking at the start of the scale |
| STANDARD | Standard frame with a crank and plastic slide rings |
| Weisslack | white enamelled steel (white tape with printed graduation) |
What a 100 m tape is used for
A 100 m tape lets you measure a long distance in a single pull: setting out the outline of a building, measuring a plot, a yard or a pavement. For shorter distances a 50 m tape is enough. Other tapes are in the measuring tapes category.

Questions and answers
What does MM/BF in the name of the BMI tape mean?
MM/BF describes the design of the tape according to the BMI catalogue. MM is a millimetre graduation, B marks the zero point at the edge of the front end fitting, and F is the FLEXTOP tip made of flexible plastic. With version A the zero is about 10 cm behind the fitting, while with version B it sits on the edge of the fitting, so the fitting can be placed directly on the measuring point. The rest of the name gives the 100 m length, the Weisslack series (white enamelled steel) and the Standard frame.
How accurate is this measuring tape?
The tape belongs to EC accuracy class II, which allows a deviation of ±2.3 mm per 10 m. Class I is more accurate (±1.1 mm per 10 m) and class III allows ±4.6 mm per 10 m. BMI lists class II as the standard for steel tapes and class I as an extra-cost option. Check the class required for official measurements before buying, because this listing is the standard version.
How is a white enamelled steel tape different from a glass fibre tape?
The Weisslack tape is white enamelled steel with a printed graduation, described by the manufacturer as a universal solution for normal use, in class II (class I optional). BMI glass fibre tapes are class II or III and are meant for less demanding measurements. Steel in class II is more accurate than glass fibre in class III: ±2.3 mm versus ±4.6 mm per 10 m.
How does the Standard frame differ from the Ergoline frame?
The Standard frame is built like the Ergoline frame, but it has plastic slide rings instead of ball bearings and no soft rubber protrusions. The mechanism is a drum with a crank, and the tape is wound by turning the crank. For long tapes BMI uses a V-shaped Standard frame: size 4 is meant for a 100 m tape and size 3 for a 50 m tape. The catalogue of the manufacturer gives further details.
Does the tape come with calibration?
The manufacturer offers calibration and a certificate of conformity as an extra-cost service, and tapes with a metric graduation are EU type-approved. This listing is the standard 100 m version with a width of 13 mm, without calibration. If you need a calibrated tape or class I, write to us before buying and we will check whether such a version can be ordered from the manufacturer.
What is a 100 m measuring tape used for?
A 100 m tape with a millimetre graduation is made for measuring long distances, for example setting out a building outline or measuring a plot, a yard or a pavement. With a deviation of ±2.3 mm per 10 m it is a tool for construction and field measurements, not for precise workshop measurements. Shorter distances up to 50 m can be measured with a 50 m tape.
