What is the elastomer for the Bomag BP 20/45 plate compactor used for?

The elastomer is a polyurethane plate fitted to the compactor base that separates the steel base plate from the surface being laid. With it, the Bomag BP 20/45, with 20 kN centrifugal force and a 450 mm working width, can compact paving stones and concrete slabs without cracks, scratches or chipping. You do not need it for compacting soil and sub-base, where the bare base plate does the work.

Which compactor does this elastomer fit?

This elastomer is made for the Bomag BP 20/45 forward plate compactor with a Honda GX 160 engine, a weight of 92 kg and a 450 mm wide base plate. You will find the model on the compactor's rating plate next to the serial number. For the BP 25/50 we offer a separate elastomer, because each model has its own base plate. Do not fit an elastomer from another model, as we cannot guarantee that it fits.

When should you fit the elastomer on a Bomag BP 20/45?

Fit the elastomer for finishing work on a laid surface: bedding in paving stones and concrete or pavement slabs, where the steel plate would leave marks. When compacting sub-base, crushed stone and loose soil, work with the bare plate. The BP 20/45 vibrates at 90 Hz, so before work check that the elastomer is clean and sits flat against the base plate.

When should you replace the elastomer on a Bomag BP 20/45?

Replace the elastomer when you see cracks, chipped edges or missing material, or when the compactor starts to leave marks on paving stones and slabs. A worn elastomer protects the surface less well and can deform under 90 Hz vibration. Wear depends on the surface, working hours and temperature, so we do not give a fixed replacement interval. Inspect the elastomer visually after every larger job.
