Fogo F 5001 single-phase generator – 4.2 kW with a Rato R300 engine
Fogo F 5001 is a portable 230 V generator (a machine that turns the energy of a combustion engine into electricity) with a maximum output of 4.2 kW and a rated output of 3.8 kW. It is powered by an air-cooled, four-stroke Rato R300 engine with a displacement of 301 cm³ and a manual starter. The generator weighs 53 kg and powers tools and equipment on site, in the workshop and as a backup source of electricity.
3.8 kW rated power and alternator data
At 230 V and 50 Hz the generator delivers a rated current of 16.5 A. According to the manufacturer’s data sheet the alternator has voltage regulation of ±5 %, THD (harmonic distortion of the voltage) of up to 6 %, a starting current of 250 % and class H insulation, so it copes with the short rise in demand when tools start. The alternator protection rating is IP 23.
About 2.4 hours of running time per tank
The tank holds 5.4 l of petrol and consumption at 75 % load is 2.2 l/h, which gives about 2.4 hours of continuous operation (5.4 l ÷ 2.2 l/h). The engine has a 1.1 l oil sump and the sound power level Lwa is 97 dB(A).
Sockets, protection and dimensions
As standard you get two 230 V 16 A sockets, an overload protection and an oil level sensor. The generator measures 650 × 520 × 490 mm (length × width × height). For moving it around the manufacturer lists the A-R650 transport kit (two wheels and two handles).
No AVR: when that is enough
The F 5001 has no electronic AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulator, which keeps the voltage within a narrow range), only voltage regulation of ±5 %. It suits power tools, lighting and pumps. For sensitive electronics such as computers or controllers choose a model from the category 230 V generators with AVR stabilization.
F 5001 or F 5001 R
Both models have a Rato R300 engine, a 5.4 l tank, a weight of 53 kg and the same frame. The F 5001 R has AVR as standard (±2 % regulation) but gives less power: 4.0 kW maximum and 3.6 kW rated. The F 5001 gives 4.2 kW and 3.8 kW with ±5 % regulation.
F 5001 or FH 5001 with a Honda engine
The FH 5001 has the same electrical data (4.2 kW maximum, 3.8 kW rated, 16.5 A, ±5 % regulation) and also weighs 53 kg, but it is powered by a Honda GX 270 engine (270 cm³) instead of the Rato R300 (301 cm³), and its tank holds 5.3 l.
