Description

Fogo F 7001 petrol generator – 6.2 kW from one 32 A socket, Rato R420 engine

Fogo F 7001 is the entry version of the F 7001 family: a single-phase petrol generator running at 230 V with 6.2 kW maximum output and 5.6 kW rated output, driven by a four-stroke Rato R420 engine. The rated current of 24.3 A is available from a single 32 A socket, while the 69 kg weight and the 790 x 580 x 505 mm frame fit into a van. It is built for construction sites, workshops and backup power for equipment that tolerates voltage fluctuation.

CVR regulation +5 / -10 % – what you can and cannot connect

The F 7001 uses capacitor voltage regulation (CVR) with a tolerance of +5 / -10 %, which means an output between 207 and 241 V. That is enough for loads that tolerate fluctuation: power tools with universal motors, concrete mixers, pumps, heaters, site lighting and heating elements. For boiler controllers, computers or measuring electronics choose the version with automatic voltage regulation of +/-2 %, the Fogo F 7001 R. Total harmonic distortion stays at or below 6 %, and the alternator has insulation class H and IP 23 protection.

Rato R420 engine and runtime on one tank

The unit is powered by a single-cylinder, four-stroke air-cooled petrol engine with a displacement of 420 cm³ and a recoil starter. At 75 % load the generator burns 2.9 l/h and the integrated fuel tank holds 6.5 l, which gives roughly 2 hours and 15 minutes of work between refills. The 1.1 l oil sump works with a low oil level sensor that shuts the engine down before damage occurs. If you need a full working day without refuelling, choose the variant with the enlarged 45 l tank, the Fogo F 7001 TR.

Two sockets and full output without splitting circuits

The control panel carries a 230 V 16 A socket and a 230 V 32 A socket, so the entire output of the generator is available through one cable instead of being split across two circuits. An overload breaker cuts the output when the current exceeds the permitted value. The gap between the 5.6 kW rated output and the 6.2 kW maximum output covers short starting peaks, which for induction motors reach 3-5 times the nominal rating – so size your loads against the rated figure, not the maximum one. The alternator itself accepts a starting current of 300 % of the rated value.

Open frame, transport and servicing

The machine is built around an open tubular frame with double handles that protects the engine and the alternator while keeping the air filter and spark plug within easy reach. Dimensions of 790 x 580 x 505 mm and a weight of 69 kg allow two people to carry it; for moving it around a site there is the Fogo ZT300-28 transport kit with wheels and a handle. Sound power level is 99 dB(A), typical for an open frame without an acoustic canopy. The unit complies with directives 2006/42/EC, 2014/35/EU and 2014/30/EU.

Questions and answers

Can I connect electronics to the Fogo F 7001 generator?

The Fogo F 7001 uses capacitor voltage regulation (CVR) with a tolerance of +5 / -10 %, so the voltage at the sockets stays between 207 and 241 V. That range is safe for loads which tolerate fluctuation: power tools with universal motors, concrete mixers, pumps, heaters and site lighting. Boiler controllers, computers, measuring equipment and devices with switched-mode power supplies need a narrower tolerance, which is why the Fogo F 7001 R with automatic voltage regulation of +/-2 % exists. Total harmonic distortion in the F 7001 stays at or below 6 %.

What is the difference between the Fogo F 7001, F 7001 R and F 7001 TR?

All three models share the same Rato R420 engine with a displacement of 420 cm³ and the same electrical output: 6.2 kW maximum, 5.6 kW rated, 24.3 A at 230 V. They differ in voltage regulation and fuel tank. The F 7001 runs on CVR regulation of +5 / -10 % with a 6.5 l tank and weighs 69 kg. The F 7001 R adds automatic AVR regulation of +/-2 % with the same tank and weight. The F 7001 TR combines AVR regulation with an enlarged 45 l tank, which brings its weight to 85 kg.

What does CVR mean in a petrol generator?

CVR (Capacitive Voltage Regulator) is a capacitor-based regulation system in which a capacitor bank provides the alternator excitation, so the output voltage varies with the load. In the Fogo F 7001 the tolerance is +5 / -10 %. An electronic AVR system measures the output voltage and corrects the excitation continuously, holding it within +/-2 %. In practice CVR is cheaper and has fewer parts to fail, but it is not suitable for sensitive electronics; AVR costs more and lets you power equipment with control circuits.

How long does the Fogo F 7001 run on one tank of fuel?

The integrated fuel tank of the Fogo F 7001 holds 6.5 l of petrol and consumption at 75 % load is 2.9 l/h, which gives roughly 2 hours and 15 minutes of continuous work between refills. Lighter loads extend that time, full load shortens it. If you need a full working day without refuelling, choose the Fogo F 7001 TR with its enlarged 45 l tank. The oil sump holds 1.1 l and is protected by a low oil level sensor that stops the engine before damage occurs.

What load will a 5.6 kW generator handle?

Loads are sized against the rated output of the generator, 5.6 kW in the Fogo F 7001, and not against the 6.2 kW maximum output, which is a reserve for short peaks. Devices with induction motors, such as pumps, compressors, concrete mixers and saws, draw 3-5 times their nominal rating on start-up, so a single load of that type is best kept to around 1.5 kW nominal. Resistive loads such as heaters or lighting can simply be added up to 5.6 kW.

What can be connected to the 32 A socket on a generator?

The 230 V 32 A socket lets you take the full output of the Fogo F 7001 through one cable instead of splitting the load across two circuits. With a rated current of 24.3 A this is the natural feed for a site distribution board, a 32 A cable reel or a high-draw machine such as a table saw or a compressor. The second socket, 230 V 16 A, handles standard power tool plugs. An overload breaker protects both circuits and cuts the output once the permitted current is exceeded.

Is the Fogo F 7001 suitable for home backup power?

The Fogo F 7001 works as backup power for loads that tolerate voltage fluctuation: lighting, heating elements, circulation pumps without electronic control and hand tools. For a gas boiler controller, a heat pump or computer equipment the AVR version, the Fogo F 7001 R, is the better choice. A generator is never plugged into a wall socket: a house installation is fed through a mains-generator changeover switch or a dedicated inlet fitted by a qualified electrician. The 6.5 l tank lasts about 2 hours, so longer outages call for a fuel reserve.

Which accessories fit the Fogo F 7001 generator?

The manufacturer lists three matching items. The Fogo ZT300-28 transport kit (art. no. 34994) adds wheels and a handle, which makes moving the 69 kg machine around a site easier. The running hour meter for the ignition coil (art. no. 23300) helps track service intervals. The service pack (art. no. 35111) contains an air filter, a spark plug and engine oil for the R 420 engine. The generator itself carries the catalogue number 36103.
