Description

Barikell segment hook-and-loop — replacement hook face for the Quick Lock plate

The segment hook-and-loop is a self-adhesive disc with hooks (the hook half of the system) used to renew the working face of the Barikell adapter plate for Jumpy Ø 75 mm polishing discs. Weight 0.4 kg. Instead of replacing the whole the hook-and-loop holder plate when the hooks wear out, you peel off the old layer and stick on a new one — the plate regains full grip.

When to replace

The hook face is a wear part: the hooks wear from concrete dust, heat and repeated peeling of discs, and cement slurry clogs them permanently. Signs for replacement are a disc shifting or flying off the plate at high speed and visibly flattened hooks. Replace the hook face on all plates of a head at once so the discs hold evenly.

How to replace

Peel the old layer off the plate, remove adhesive and slurry residue down to clean metal (solvent, scraper), degrease the surface and press the new hook disc on evenly across the whole diameter — with no air pockets under the adhesive. Let the adhesive cure as the manufacturer recommends before the first job, because heat from dry polishing weakens a fresh bond.

What it fits

The disc is sized for the the hook-and-loop holder plate of the Barikell / HG Hyper Grinder system, which carries Jumpy Ø 75 mm polishing discs and pads for buffing Concrete Guard Lithium PRO. It is not used with metal segments — those mount in the Quick Lock socket without hook-and-loop.

Care

After wet work rinse and dry the plate before slurry sets in the hooks; after dry work blow the dust out. Peel polishing discs off from the edge rather than pulling them straight up — this extends hook life several times over.

Questions and answers

How do I match a diamond segment to concrete hardness?

Choose the segment inversely to concrete hardness: soft, abrasive concrete (3–5 Mohs) takes the HGS series with a harder bond, medium (5–7) HGM, hard (7–8) HGH with a softer bond, and extremely hard concrete HGX with the softest. Hard concrete does not wear the bond, so the bond must release the diamonds itself; soft concrete wears it fast, so the bond must be hard. If the hardness is unknown, start with HGM and check the wear after the first 50 m².

What do grits 20, 40, 70 and 140 mean?

Grit is the diamond grain size: the lower the number, the coarser the grain and the more aggressive the cut. Grit 20 strips laitance, adhesives and unevenness, 40 removes the scratches of 20, 70 smooths and 140 prepares the surface for densifier and resin discs. Run each grit until the previous scratches disappear, overlapping passes by about 30 percent. Skipping a grit leaves scratches that only show after polishing.

What is Quick Lock mounting?

Quick Lock is a tool-free mounting system for diamond tools on the plates of Barikell BKG and HG Hyper Grinder machines: the segment plate has curved tabs that slide into the plate socket and lock with the machine's rotation. Changing a full set on three heads takes minutes instead of unscrewing bolts. The same socket takes a hook-and-loop adapter plate that accepts Ø 75 mm polishing discs.

How many segments does a grinder need?

Each plate of a planetary head usually takes three segments spaced 120 degrees apart, so a three-head BKG grinder needs nine segments of one grit; for levelling a very uneven floor two segments per plate are fitted, which raises the unit pressure. Replace segments as a set on the whole machine, because mixing new and worn ones makes the plates run unevenly and the floor wavy. The shop price is per piece.

Grind dry or wet?

Metal segments work in both modes. Wet, water from the machine's system cools the segment, binds dust and extends tool life, but it produces slurry that must be collected as you go and the floor dried before chemicals. Dry work needs an industrial vacuum with a HEPA filter, is logistically cleaner and moves on to polishing sooner. On hard concrete a dry segment glazes faster — adding water or switching to a softer bond helps.

When is a segment worn out?

Replace a segment when the diamond layer is below about 2 mm high or when output clearly drops despite a correct bond choice. Wear should be even on all segments of a plate; if one wears faster, check the head pressure and plate flatness. A segment that has stopped cutting but is not worn has usually glazed — open it up with a few passes over an abrasive surface or switch to a softer bond.
