Description
Toolsa DDB 30 core drill motor – brushless 3000 W for holes up to 250 mm
Toolsa DDB 30 is a brushless motor for a diamond core drill (a drill that cuts a cylinder of material out of concrete with a crown fitted with diamond segments), designed for stand-mounted work. It delivers 3000 W, has a three-speed gearbox with 620 | 1330 | 2680 rpm and a torque of 40 Nm. On a stand it drills holes up to 250 mm, and at 6.4 kg it is one of the lightest motors in its class from Toolsa.
Why a brushless motor?
A brushless motor has no carbon brushes, which wear out in a conventional motor and need replacing. Power reaches the rotor through control electronics, so losses are lower and the motor heats up more slowly during long drilling sessions. The manufacturer states 25% higher cutting efficiency than a brushed design, in a more compact and lighter housing.
Three speeds for different diameters
The larger the core bit, the lower the speed. Gear 1 (620 rpm) is for holes up to 200 mm in concrete and 250 mm in brick, gear 2 (1330 rpm) for up to 100 mm in concrete and 130 mm in brick, and gear 3 (2680 rpm) for small holes up to 60 mm in concrete and 80 mm in brick. Matching the gear to the diameter protects the diamond segments from overheating and speeds up drilling.
Double protection and oil-bath gearbox
The electronic clutch with a microcontroller provides a soft start: it limits the inrush current and the kick at start-up. The mechanical clutch disengages the drive when the core bit jams in rebar, protecting the operator and the gearbox. The gears run in an oil bath that lubricates them and carries heat away.
Core bit mounting and water cooling
The spindle has a 1 1/4" UNC outer thread (the standard for concrete core bits) and a G 1/2" inner thread for smaller bits. A G 1/4" water connection feeds cooling water to the bit for wet drilling. The motor runs on 230 V, 50–60 Hz mains power and draws 13.5 A.
DDB 30 compared with other Toolsa motors
DDB 30 fills the gap between the Toolsa DD 22 motor (2200 W, up to 220 mm on a stand, 9.5 kg) and the Toolsa DD 33 (3300 W, up to 400 mm, 15.3 kg). Compared with the DD 22 it offers 800 W more power and a 30 mm larger drilling range while being about 3 kg lighter.
Stand and vacuum fixing
The manufacturer designed the DDB 30 for stand-mounted work. It fits the Toolsa DS 250 stand, with a 900 mm column and 600 mm travel, which handles core bits up to 252 mm. When drilling into a ceiling or on a smooth floor, the Toolsa VP 120 vacuum pump holds the stand base with suction instead of an expansion anchor.

Questions and answers
What is the Toolsa DDB 30 core drill motor used for?
The Toolsa DDB 30 motor drives a diamond core drill for cutting core holes in concrete, reinforced concrete and brick. It is mounted on a stand and wet-drills holes up to 250 mm in diameter, e.g. for service penetrations, ventilation ducts and air conditioning. It has a brushless 3000 W motor, three speeds and 40 Nm of torque.
What speed should I use to drill concrete with the DDB 30?
The speed depends on the core bit diameter: the larger the bit, the lower the gear. On the DDB 30, gear 1 (620 rpm) is for holes up to 200 mm in concrete, gear 2 (1330 rpm) up to 100 mm and gear 3 (2680 rpm) up to 60 mm. In brick the same gears handle 250, 130 and 80 mm. Too high a speed with a large bit overheats the diamond segments.
What is the largest hole the Toolsa DDB 30 can drill?
On a stand, the Toolsa DDB 30 drills holes up to 250 mm in diameter. The manufacturer's recommended ranges are up to 200 mm in concrete and up to 250 mm in brick in first gear (620 rpm). For holes up to 400 mm, the more powerful 3300 W Toolsa DD 33 motor is designed.
Can the DDB 30 motor be used handheld?
The manufacturer designed the Toolsa DDB 30 for stand-mounted work, e.g. on the Toolsa DS 250 stand, which keeps the motor on a fixed axis and takes the 40 Nm torque reaction. For handheld drilling, Toolsa offers the DDB 26 handheld core drill rated at 2600 W with a handheld range up to 80 mm. Above 80–100 mm a stand is practically essential.
Does a diamond core drill use hammer action?
A diamond core drill such as the Toolsa DDB 30 cuts concrete by rotation with the diamond segments of the core bit, without hammer action. Hammer action is needed by SDS drills with twist bits, not by core bits. Wet rotary drilling produces a hole with smooth walls and does not crack the concrete around it.
Which core bits fit the Toolsa DDB 30?
The Toolsa DDB 30 spindle has a 1 1/4" UNC outer thread, the standard for concrete core bits from about 32 to 250 mm, and a G 1/2" inner thread for smaller bits. A G 1/4" water connection feeds cooling to the bit. Bits are chosen for the material: different ones for reinforced concrete and for brick.
