A Husqvarna core drill cuts a cylindrical core out of concrete, reinforced concrete, brick or stone with a diamond bit, instead of hammering the material apart. The result is a clean bore wall and a repeatable diameter, with no cracking around the opening. The Swedish manufacturer organises its drilling range around three codes: DM marks the drill motor (hand-held or rig-mounted), DS the stand, and DMS a factory-matched motor-and-stand set.
This category gathers rig-mounted drilling equipment from Husqvarna Construction: the complete DMS 240 set, the electric DM 400 rig motor, the hydraulic DM 406 H and the DS series stands — DS 150, DS 250, DS 40 Gyro, DS 50 Gyro, DS 500 and DS 900. Hand-held models from the same brand sit under hand-held core drills, and machines from other manufacturers in the parent category core drills.
The Husqvarna drilling range — what DM, DS and DMS stand for
Husqvarna sorts its drilling equipment with three symbols. DM stands for Drill Motor: gearbox and bit spindle, guided by hand or on a column carriage. DS stands for Drill Stand — base, feed mechanism and anchoring hardware. DMS is a factory-matched motor-and-stand set.
Motors here take bits on the 1 1/4" UNC thread, so tooling swaps freely between models and brands. Bits, extensions, water collection rings and the VP 200 vacuum pump sit under diamond core drill bits and core drill accessories.
Matching a Husqvarna core drill to the hole you need
Bit diameter drives the choice. Openings for pipes and cables are hand-held work; through-holes in load-bearing walls, slabs and foundations need a rig-mounted motor, since only a rigid column holds the axis steady under the torque of a large bit.
| Machine type | Designations in the range | Typical diameter | Power source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hand-held core drill | DM 200, DM 210 SP, DM 220, DM 230 | up to roughly 150–200 mm | 230 V |
| Battery-powered | DM 540i, DM 1 PACE | 100–150 mm | battery |
| Electric rig motor | DM 370, DM 400, DM 430, DM 700 | roughly 250–600 mm | 230 V or 400 V |
| Hydraulic motor | DM 406 H | the largest in the range | hydraulic power pack |
| Motor and stand set | DMS 160 A, DMS 160 AT, DMS 160 GYRO, DMS 240 | according to set class | mains |
This page holds the DMS 240 set, the DM 400 rig motor, the hydraulic DM 406 H and DS stands from the DS 150 and DS 40 Gyro up to the DS 500 and DS 900, each picked to suit the motor it carries. The rest of the brand's line-up sits across core drill motors, core drill stands, hand-held core drills and complete core drills.
Wet drilling, anchoring the stand and motor protection
Husqvarna core drills are built for wet work. Water fed through the spindle cools the diamond segments and flushes slurry out of the kerf; a few litres per minute extends bit life and keeps the barrel from binding. On floors the run-off is caught by a collection ring connected to a slurry vacuum. The stand base is fixed with an expansion anchor or a jack braced against the ceiling, or, on smooth non-porous surfaces, by vacuum. Overload electronics, branded Elgard, cut power before a jammed bit damages the motor. With no site supply, the machines run off power packs and generators.
Husqvarna core drills — frequently asked questions
What do the symbols DM, DS and DMS mean in Husqvarna core drill names?
DM marks the drill motor, DS the drill stand, DMS a factory-matched set of the two. The number that follows rises with the class of the machine: DM 200 through DM 230 are hand-held 230 V units for openings usually up to roughly 150–200 mm, while DM 370, DM 400, DM 430 and DM 700 are rig motors covering roughly 250–600 mm. Stands follow the same logic, from the DS 150 to the DS 900.
Which Husqvarna core drill suits through-holes in a concrete slab?
Through-holes in slabs and load-bearing walls are rig work. Bits above roughly 200 mm develop torque no operator holds steady by hand, so the motor belongs on a rigid column: a DM 370 to DM 700 motor on a DS stand matched to its output, or a ready-made DMS set. Overhead work adds two requirements: a water collection ring, and a base fixed with an expansion anchor or vacuum.
Do Husqvarna core drills need a three-phase 400 V supply?
Hand-held models such as the DM 200, DM 220 and DM 230 run from a single-phase 230 V socket, on an ordinary site installation. A three-phase 400 V supply becomes necessary only for the strongest rig motors turning large bits, so check that in the model's technical data. Without three-phase power on site, the options are a generator sized above rated motor power, or the hydraulic DM 406 H run from a power pack.
How does a battery Husqvarna core drill differ from a mains model?
Battery machines such as the DM 540i and DM 1 PACE work without a cable, which pays off in refurbishment with no supply yet, on scaffolding and where noise matters. Their envelope is narrower: diameters around 100–150 mm and pauses to swap packs. Mains models hold full output as long as the job lasts, so for openings above 200 mm or a full shift of drilling, mains or hydraulic power wins.
