Description
Bomag BT 65 / BVT 65 fuel filter – carburettor protection against contamination
The fuel filter for the Bomag BT 65 and BVT 65 rammer (part no. 05904718) traps deposits and rust particles before they reach the carburettor. In machines refuelled from jerry cans on site this is a critical part, because the tank receives contamination from fuel decanted in conditions far removed from a workshop.
Symptoms of a clogged fuel filter
A rammer with a blocked fuel filter stalls under load, snatches at full throttle and sometimes starts normally only to lose power after a few minutes. A telling sign is that the machine restarts after a short pause, because the fuel line beyond the filter has had time to refill.
Cheaper than cleaning the carburettor
Contamination that gets through settles in the carburettor jets and calls for removal and flushing. Replacing the fuel filter during a routine inspection costs several times less and takes a few minutes, which is why it is treated as a standard maintenance item.
Bomag rammer consumables
The filter is intended for the Bomag BT 65 and Bomag BVT 65 rammers. For a full inspection consider the Bomag rammer service package, or add other filters for combustion engines from the Bomag brand page.

Questions and answers
How do you tell that the fuel filter in a rammer needs replacing?
A clogged fuel filter shows up as the engine stalling under load, snatching at full throttle and losing power after a few minutes of work despite starting correctly from cold. A telling sign is that after a few minutes standing still the machine restarts and runs normally for a while. If the symptoms persist after replacing the air filter, the fuel filter is the next item to check.
How often should the fuel filter in a Bomag BT 65 be replaced?
The fuel filter in a rammer is usually replaced once a season or every 200-300 operating hours, so less often than the air filter. More frequent replacement is justified where the machine is refuelled from jerry cans or where fuel has been stored for more than a few weeks, as petrol forms deposits over time. Service practice is to change the fuel filter during a routine inspection, together with the air filter and spark plug.
Does filter 05904718 fit both the BT 65 and the BVT 65?
Fuel filter part number 05904718 is intended for the Bomag BT 65 and BVT 65 rammers. Both machines belong to the same family of rammers with an operating weight close to 65 kg and use an equivalent fuel system. Before ordering it is worth checking the number stamped on the existing element or listed in the manual for the specific unit.
What happens if a rammer is run without a fuel filter?
Running without a fuel filter means deposits, rust particles and water condensed in the tank pass straight into the carburettor. Contamination blocks jets measured in fractions of a millimetre, causing uneven running and eventually forcing removal and flushing of the carburettor. The cost of that repair far exceeds the price of a filter, so running without a working element is uneconomical even as a stopgap.
